Google Instant

Postby AlieP » Tue Sep 14, 2010 1:09 pm

Admuncher is preventing Google instant from working. When I turn admuncher off completely (remove from system tray not just disable filtering), I am able to use google instant without complication, but when admuncher is on, google instant fails to work at all.

I have tried disable filtler and the result are the same as with admuncher on. Curiously though, even with in the disabled filter state, admuncher log file will state "Aborted filtering of connection due to unrecognised content encoding []" when searching with google.

Again if admuncher is completely off (remove from system tray), google instant always works.

@akbar, yeah it doesn't matter when you turn admuncher off before the browser is already loaded or after, as long as it is off(not just disable filtering) google instant works. Turn admuncher back on at any time and google instant no longer works, with filters enabled or with filters disabled.

But yea, I thought google instant was a gimmick as first, but it is really useful. I was a bit surprised that I am the first one to bring this up in the admuncher forum b/c google instant is a pretty big deal.

you aren't the first.

there's another thread.

Google Instant doesn't work for me anywhere with or without Ad Muncher.

So until it does there's nothing I can do. I'm not going to hunt for it.

Jeff, are located in the States like your profile suggests? If so, is there any particular reason why you won't "hunt it down"?

Even if Google instant is implemented worldwide yet, this hiccup should be affecting the majority of your users I assume. Thanks for the fast reply

It didn't work for me initially either. You may have already done this, bu In my case, it was a firefox extensions and google cookies causing trouble. To get around that, I just created a new clean Firefox test profile and ran it in safe mode and google instant started to work after that.

Here is the offending filter I believe, its is admuncher not recognizing Google instant's new content encoding.

Aborted filtering of connection due to unrecognised content encoding [http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q=google+instant+not+working&aq=f&aqi=g-z1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=CbwdI6jOQTKS5BKXgoATNlIGtAQAAAKoEBU_Q1JsX]

Another

Aborted filtering of connection due to unrecognised content encoding [http://www.google.com/compressiontest/gzip.html]

Last example

Aborted filtering of connection due to unrecognised content encoding [http://www.google.com/s?hl=en&expIds=17259,17311,25217,25659,25753,25854,25900,25907,26209,26218,26340,26446,26515&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=wh&cp=2&pf=p&sclient=psy&aq=f&aqi=g4g-o1&aql=&oq=wh&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=ab5cdb1806fef4aa&tch=1&ech=2&psi=KzOQTP70Hoe2sAPe1K2yDg12845186828320]

And if "disabled filtering" is on, admuncher still prevent google instant from working giving me this log

Aborted filtering of connection due to unrecognised content encoding []

Ad Muncher is not compatible with Google Instant.

This won't change until we add gzip in a future version.
