No filtering on Windows 8.1

Postby keverne » Fri Jun 28, 2013 9:21 pm

AdMuncher 4.93 33707/4733 worked fine on 8.0 but not now on Windows 8.1 Pro Review Build 9431 complete with Internet Explorer 11.0.9431.

The logs show no filtering activity at all. Could this mean a problem at my end or is AdMuncher incompatible with this latest beta release of Windows?

It's a preview.

this will impact more than just Ad Muncher.

We have to wait for 8.1 final.

if it's still broken then 5.x will fix it.

And the Feature Keep this window on top does't work to on Windows 8.1 ;-)

I hope AdMuncher 5.x released soon. :) :) :)

Well it's going to be interesting to see what hits the streets first, Win 8.1 or AdMuncher 5.

You could be right! Some of us are waiting on features promised back in 2007 - clock is still ticking on those...

I always install Preview/Trial Software when released for testing by Microsoft. Yes, Ad Muncher is not working on the built-in IE11 - but hey it installed on the OS without hiccup. I then installed Google Chrome and Ad Muncher is working as it should 100 percent on this browser on Windows 8.1 Pro Preview with Media Edition.

Given that Admuncher is keen to charge us all for an upgrade to version 5.x to make it compatible with IE11 on Win 8.1, I've moved to Adblock Plus. It works fine with IE11/Firefox on Windows 8.1.
Sad to leave Admuncher after so many years, but it's hard to justify paying more on an Admuncher upgrade (when it eventually arrives) when there are free alternatives that work almost as well. :?

We weren't keen to do any such thing.

We had no idea MS would do this with IE.

Jeff, sorry if my tone sounded a bit harsh. I have great respect for you and the team. I've loved and encouraged others to use Admuncher over many years. It is a fantastic product.
However, would there be any chance of a fix for IE11 being added to 4.9, assuming 4.9 still doesn't work once IE11 goes gold?

It depends.

if it's easy and a very minor change there's a chance we will release v4.94 with IE11 fix.

But if it requires all of or a large portion of the newly written code for v5.x well then that just won't be possible to do.

since that's the entire reason for 5.x, to fix the the limitations of 4.x by rewriting the code.

so bottom line, if we have to rewrite the code TWICE, then only 5.x will get this fix unless it's very minor.

We are still researching the issue, we don't know what MS did yet to cause this.

This is absolutely not true.

leap touch was a minor distraction.

Stop speculating or spreading rumors.

if you didn't hear it directly from Murray or myself then it's likely NOT TRUE.
