Ability to turn off Advert Counter

Postby ZombyWoof » Wed Mar 14, 2012 1:07 am

Is there suppose to be a purpose for the advert counter statistics on the About tab?

I cannot find a use for it, and I'm constantly zeroing it. (It's a minor distraction to me.)

Please consider putting in an on/off switch to turn on/off the advert counter (or better yet, eliminating it all together).

That's a pet peeve of mine also. I likes my software doing as little as necessary. That's just me, don't ask me why, but that's just me. I second the motion.

And all along I thought it was only me who cared about stuff like that. Like they say... Great minds.

Dead serious. It's useless information. Why having something in there keeping useless statistics? Might as well take it out.

Thanks for the feedback guys, we appreciate it.

Unfortunately in 13 years this is the first I've heard of anyone objecting to the counter, so to avoid adding unnecessary complexity I'd like to wait to see if many other people want this option.

The memory and disk load in maintaining this feature is absolutely minuscule compared to everything else going on in Ad Muncher.

Which is why I disabled or just not use a lot of 'features' of AdMuncher, like that 'status bar' option you are getting rid of. I've never set the browser to show the status bar... Wasted viewing space.

You completely misunderstood what that feature did.

http://www.admuncher.com/wiki/Ad_Munche ... status_bar

Many ad companies would obfuscate the link when you hovered over an ad tricking you into thinking it wasn't an ad link.

This option removed that obfuscation.

The option was removed because now all the major browsers hide their status bars and disallow this kind of status bar abuse.

This feature, while it was needed, was one of the coolest and more valuable features we've ever had.

No I didn't. Just saying I didn't need that feature. Like I said, I deselect the browser status bar view. BTW, IE8 shows status bar by default. Can't speak for IE9. Some people still do use XP. Same goes for Opera 9.27. That version of Opera is handy for snatching flv files out of cache, which is one reason why I still keep it.

not sure what your point is...

Opera 9.27 is dead.

Most might tell me that Kerio Personal Firewall v2.15 is dead, but for me it does what any other firewall software can do. Should I give that up? Just sayin'.

it would take resources to remove it. it's already added. there is no reason to remove it. so it won't be.

I love this counter too.. however, since I reinstall my laptop every so often my stats gets reseted. Would be nice if it was saved to exported settings file (which I would like to have an option to autosave when I change something)!! :D
