Ad Muncher Documentation - Which Wiki?

Postby Murray » Wed Jan 16, 2008 3:24 am

Hi everyone,

I'm about to start work on moving the Ad Muncher help file over to an online Wiki system, predominantly because the existing help file format is not Vista compatible, and switching over to the Vista-compatible format would break Windows 95 compatibility. Before I start work I would like to ask the following:

  • Is there anything you would like to see in the updated documentation?
  • If you have Wiki experience, is there a particular Wiki engine that you think we should be considering? (currently thinking DokuWiki)
Any other feedback you have on the help system would also be helpful.

We're rapidly running out of Vista problems to fix, so should be able to get v4.72 out before too long. Please report any issues you encounter as soon as possible, and also please be sure to include your contact details (such as an email address) when reporting bugs in case we need to ask a diagnostic question.

Thanks :-)

Good idea, opening up a Wiki.

Heck, most packages are about the same. You could always go with MediaWiki.

Yeah MediaWiki is proven, seeing as it runs Wikipedia.

MediaWiki has the most features I think. DokuWiki is pretty good but go MediaWiki for that little bit extra!

Thanks guys, you're right - there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between them, so I'll just go with whichever I think will have the best support and reliability (MediaWiki, I think). Nothing like a project to help you learn something new hey?

Hi,
glad to hear, that there's gonna be move like this...
I implemented Perspective ( http://www.high-beyond.com ) aqt my work to create a documentation. It's not bad, but it's quite isolated and looks like one man show, which is a bit tricky for getting support later.

One thing I found to be quite important is the possibility to create (or rather to have by default) the relation to community (respectively forum) and shared identity management.

(Otherwise mediawiki looks good, but have no experince with that :) )

Regards!
