Quick Browser Extension Survey

Postby Murray » Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:35 am

Hey everyone,

I've had a few people say that Ad Muncher's browser extensions are a little more complicated to use than they need to be, so I wanted to do a quick survey to see how many people would prefer a simplified version of the "URL formatting" window that appears when you right-click on something in your browser and try to block it.

The current window looks like this:

Add Filter Current.gif
Add Filter Current.gif (14.76 KiB) Viewed 9214 times

The simplified version would replace the multiple selection screen with just a simple "Category" / "URL" layout:

Add Filter Proposal.gif
Add Filter Proposal.gif (10.62 KiB) Viewed 9212 times

Please let us know which one you prefer, and we'll go with whichever preference is most popular.

Thanks very much :-)

Hello Murray.

Well i think it is not difficult or complicated the way it is now, but maybe you can resolve this easy for both parties.
Just make the simple "Category" / "URL" like you said as standard interface and add a advanced button there at the bottom for the ones that like all other options so that they can click on the button for more options.
Just a thought ;)

Greats ysco..

Not a bad idea ysco, when I get some time I'll try out a few different designs and see if I can find a compromise that doesn't get in the way too much.

From the survey responses it looks like there's no huge desire to change the current design though, so it'll be a little way down the todo list.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to participate :-)

Definitely on the todo list ovd; currently I'm buried in adding support for filtering 64-bit applications (a very non-trivial task), but the way Chrome's popularity is going an extension for that is inevitable.
