Chrome Extension Ad/Malware

Postby Vector » Sat Jan 18, 2014 9:23 pm

I found out the other week that a Chrome extension I was using (HoverZoom) was injecting malware into web pages, some sort of data mining script for user details. Anyway, I'd just like to know if Ad Muncher can prevent said malicious scripts from being executed. Cheers.

Some info on it -

Ad Muncher can't help if you're infected...

using an extension you know is giving you ads isn't a good idea..

No I've uninstalled it, but that doesn't mean other extensions don't include the same kind of ad/malware scripts that aren't known about. Just wanted to know if Ad Muncher filtered extensions, too.

Ad Muncher filters all outgoing non encrypted connections.

as long as it matches a known ad server.

I read the other day that Chrome extensions are being bought up by adware vendors and inject crap!

Google wont let us know when an extension is updated, or even worse, when ownership has changed. Kind of crappy of them, and the fact that there is no way to block auto-update of extensions.

I saw that.

I wonder how long before that change that policy now that it's a major news story?

It's a start at least. Just hope now that they'll notice users when extensions change ownership, and an option to let an extension update or not would be nice.
