MUTEX timeout errors . . . HELP!

Postby k6adtom » Wed Sep 10, 2008 7:47 pm

I often get an error message that says "Timeout, .... MUTEX error ....." Sometimes Ad Muncher will work just fine. Other times, it completely blocks ALL web pages from loading (that's usually when I get the MUTEX error). Other times Ad Muncher only lets pages partially load. Sometimes it makes the downloads painfully slow. Sometimes, the pages load with ALL ads (none are filtered out). Often I must close and restart Ad Muncher to get my web pages loading again. When Ad Muncher is closed I never have any problems browsing. Ad Muncher's behavior has just become erratic: I can't narrow it down to any specific pattern. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, but that made no difference. I am running Windows XP SP2. Using IE7, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, and Opera. Same problem, all browsers. Everything was fine until I upgraded to 4.72 build 30400/2047 (from 4.71). Any help or ideas would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

Just background programs: Comodo Firewall v3.25 and McAfee Enterprise Antivirus/Antispyware. If I open the browsers FIRST and THEN open ad muncher, I don't have as many problems. But if I open ad muncher before the browsers, I frequently have problems. Thanks for your help.

A program on your computer outside of Ad Muncher is using up resources that then cause Ad Muncher to have this error.

We will make Ad Muncher work better in future versions but for now all you can do is find the app causing this chain reaction and remove it.

I have looked at all the processes and apps in Process Explorer (Sysinternals) and I see nothing consuming resources. Plenty of both CPU and RAM on hand. Is there some other way to find the interfering program that you can suggest? Thanks.

network resources.

they don't appear there.

You'll have to find out why by trial and error.

Nothing consuming network resources, so I don't see how this could be the problem.

All the problems referenced in the first post disappear once Ad Muncher is closed. Browsers work great with Ad Muncher closed, except that I get the friggin ads!

Ad Muncher is just showing you the error once the problem has occured.

With Ad Muncher eventually the problem would present itself in another manner, like your internet would stop working or strange errrors etc..

Hi,

Mutex errors.

If I open more than four tabs in FireFox 3 and another four tabs in Internet Explorer 8 beta at the same time, I get AdMuncer Mutex errors every time. Web browsing slows to a crawl. If I have disabled AdMuncher, I can open all those tabs and have speedy web browsing.

An workaround? Increase AdMuncher cache?

Thanks.

This will be fixed in 4.73 all you can do is close and restart Ad Muncher for now.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. :)

I'm on a Brand-new clean install of Vista SP1. Up to a few days ago I was using XP Pro Sp2 and AdMuncher without any problems. But I'm no longer a happy-camper.

It has become impossible to remain on-line with this error constantly shutting down my Internet and disrupting web Access... Shutting down AdMuncher alone is not sufficient to end the disruptions... as it is almost impossible to shut it down... and the only way to get active again seems to be to re-boot.. and sometimes I have to force it by using the reset button.

I have had to uninstall AdMuncher... I'll come back to it after the promised v4.73 fix...

Just when will that be ?????

You'll need to find the app that is conflicting with Ad Muncher and disable it or stop using it.

It could be a firewall or an Anti-Virus program, or an over zealous p2p app.

We are hard at work on v4.73 and we will release a beta as soon as we possibly can.

Please bear with us. :)

Sorry... I can't find any specific program conflicting.... But in today's Internet, and in the greater scheme of things, a working Ant-Virus & Firewall, plus P2P/Torrent far outrank AdMuncher in my "Things I need to Run list"...

I'll be back periodically to check for news on the availability of the 4.73 fix... And ANY IDEA (Estimate) when this will be ????

Also, it seems to me, enough people are being affected by this Bug, that a stand-alone PATCH may be appropriate, in order to satisfy your established user-base, and offer a quick fix to maintain a positive Customer-service rating.
