I Crashes if Bing Bar is enabled: Build 33053/3943

Postby JeremyG » Tue Feb 21, 2012 1:02 am

Running Win7 x64 with IE 9.

I just installed: Ad Muncher v4.93 Beta Build 33053/3943

Every time I launched IE it would crash immediately. Then I saw that when i lauched a pinned webpage from the task bar, it did not crash. Only difference is that pinned pages launch without any toolbars. Disabled the BingBar and no more crashing. BingBar enabled + Ad Muncher off ....also works fine.

I've been unable to reproduce the problem here. Could I please ask a few quick questions to help me reproduce the problem:

- Is your Bing bar configured with any email accounts or with your Facebook account? If email, who is the email provider?

- Have you made any other customizations to the bar?

- Are you running the 32bit or 64bit versions of IE? (both should be available via your start menu)

- Are there any other plugins enabled in your browser? If so which?

- Is there any other filtering software installed on the system? If so which?

Thanks very much.

- No email on Bing Bar.

- The bing bar buttons I have visible are: maps, weather Stocks, movies, news, rewards, translate

- 32-bit internet explo0rer

- Only other enabled plugins are Java, and RoboForm (just tried with RoboForm disabled, and same result) Also have Kaspersky Security and Snagit plugins, installed in IE...but they are disabled.

- No other filtering software installed.

I just ran into this. Decided to enable beta builds and immediately after installing it, IE 32-bit would crash immediately upon launching, but IE 64-bit would not. Found this thread and tested by disabling Bing toolbar and now IE 32-bit does not crash. Makes sense I guess since the toolbar isn't available in 64-bit anyway.

BIng toolbar has Yahoo mail and LIve Mail (hotmail) configured. No facebook or any other social site configured.

Admuncher build: Ad Muncher v4.93 Beta Build 33116/4038
I also have the advert list on beta, but darned if I can now recall where I chose that, so not sure... oh wait, think that is the 4038 above?

EDIT: I went into admuncher options / Filter Targets and tried setting all bing apps showing ( -bingbar:* -bingapp:* -bingdesktop:* ) to not be filtered. No effect, IE 32-bit still crashes. This isn't really a huge deal personally, just kinda like the bing bar.

I'd love to nail this problem down, but still can't get this to happen here sorry.

When you have a spare moment, could I ask you to please do the following:

Close Ad Muncher
Launch Ad Muncher again
Reproduce the crash
Then open Ad Muncher, click the "Logs" tab, then change the visible log to "Retrieved URLs"
Copy all URLs in the list, then send them to me (private message is fine)
Then please do the same for the "Triggered filters and options" list

I'll then be able to see what's different over there compared to when I try it, and hopefully produce a fix.

Sorry for the trouble guys.

Happy to help, and honestly... it's just the bing bar. Not exactly life-threatening if I cannot use it. I'd much rather live without the bing bar than live without admuncher!

Anyway...

Retrived URLs = http://www.bing.com/?PC=BNHP

Triggered filters and options = Default filter match - Don't match against keyword: .microsoft.com/fwlink/ [http://www.bing.com/?PC=BNHP]

That's it. That URL is my home page, btw. Wonder if something on that page is trying to interact with the bing toolbar in a way that doesn't play nice with admuncher.
