Intel v/s AMD

AMD for now, their price/performance is simply better for most things, and playing with 64 bit stuff is fun.

I use AMD for the simple fact that I need great performance at low cost, if I could afford P4's, I would run them, simply because I disagree with amd's naming scheme (using a POWER RATING as opposed to the actual clock speed of the chip). If AMD ever released a chip that ran at the speed that matched its name, I would be in heaven!

Well, for quite a while, the power rating corresponded quite well to the clock speed of pentium 4s. Now that Intel has started using model names, the power ratings don't correspond to anything, so they're no worse than using model names/numbers.

Though I wish AMD would name their chips with the actual clock speed and not a power rating, I'm otherwise happy.

My laptop had to go, but it got replaced with one of those bargain systems from Walmart.com - For $200, I'm happy with what I got, though it's been upgraded a bit..

AMD Sempron 2200 (1.5Ghz)
384 Megs RAM
120GB HD + 40GB HD

Seems this system tops out with a Sempron 3000 (2Ghz) and 2GB RAM, but that's plenty for what I use it for.

Well, just ordered a bunch of new parts, including an Athlon 64 3000+ (1.8 Ghz). Hopefully I'm able to get it to around 2.4 Ghz.

For gaming I like AMD64 FX-55 and for business and various other production applications I like my P4.

Intel + Intel Chipset = Generally equates to stability (heat issues though)

Amd cpus are maybe technically superior but they lack a decent chipset to pair them with IMHO.

VIA chipsets (drivers) are probably the worlds buggiest POS. They are buggier than any Microsoft products out there. It's a shame that the mojority of AMD motherboards are powered by VIA POS.

AMD CPUs do have a decent chipset to pair them with. The Nvidia nForce2/3/4 MBs.
