upgrade question

Postby acr » Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:43 am

When Ad Muncher gets to its 5.0 release, whenever that may be, will I need to purchase a new license? Does my current license only take me through the 4.+ builds up to 5.0?

thanks

If you registered before 5:00 PM October 8th 2006 GMT then the upgrade will be free.

Otherwise it won't be. :)

Right now we have v4.71, v4.72, v4.73 and v4.8 in the works so v5.0 is not yet a concern.

v4.8 will also be getting many of the features that were planned for v5.0

Thanks for the reply. Is there any general info you could give about what may be in store for version 4.8? Anything really big?

war59312 already told you the main one.

That and an improved filtering engine is all we know for sure.

The rest hasn't been decided yet.

Lots of things to mark off our TODO list.

Some of the things that may or may NOT make it into v4.8

regular expressions.
per site filters.
per filter whitelisting.
a variety of new filtering categories.
disable individual entries in the default list.
disable individual entries in the custom list.
more features added to the IRC client.

and lots more potential features.

Oh and Admuncher v5.0 will be written in 100% C# ?

But for now it continues to be mainly written in assembly correct?

Seems like it was 2005 last time that was mentioned... Wondering if that still holds true...

update: yeah i just meant C, just use to typing C# a lot lately...

v4.8 and up will be coded in C, Not C#

Some portions of it may still be in asm, but most of it will be C and new features will be in C.

C is easier to maintain it will make it a lot easier to port to linux and OSX.

I'm holding out for OSX compatibility -- then I'm forever done with Windows.

Heh I am now enduring ads on OSX and still patiently waiting. I bought AM years ago and get the lifelong updates. Best purchase I have ever made!

Haven't found a near-suitable substitute for AM on OS X?

The ad block plug in for Firefox and/or pithhelmet for Safari are about as good it gets I think. Or you can filter through an ad blocking proxy, which you can run on your mac in the background.

Tried downloading PithHelmet and got a permission denied, so no, so far not.
